School Calendar
Our School Year schedule follows the Shelby County School calendar.
Helping Hands (H.H.) |
Your child brings enough individual snacks for 29.
Suggestions: cheese, crackers, fresh fruit, veggies. Please refrain from sending items heavy in processing, food dye or sugar. Please don’t send highly processed snacks like Handi Snacks, Pirate’s Booty or lunchables and things of that nature. |
Laundry Duty |
Parents are asked to take turns taking home the nap sheets and cleaning rags. A staff member will send the laundry home with your child at the end of the day. Please return them on the following Monday morning at carpool.

Birthday Celebration! |
We celebrate a child’s birthday at school by taking an imaginary journey around the sun, (represented by a long yellow candle) one time for each year that the children have been on earth. The child holds a globe and walks around in an elliptical pattern as the teaching guide reads the information that you have supplied. After the child completes his/her journey they blow out the candle and are sung to. The children are also invited to bring homemade cookies. (Please don’t send cupcakes). The birthday child makes and keeps a special birthday necklace. You may distribute birthday invitations at school ONLY if all the children are invited.
|
Charity Lunch |
On the last Friday of each month, 3 children will be asked to create a meal, help cook, set up the tables and serve the meal to the class. At the beginning of the school year, the children voted on what charity they wanted to support for this year. The children chose to support Heifer International, a fantastic nonprofit devoted to ending child hunger and poverty. Please read more about them on their website here!
Every child will bring $3.00 for their meal. The school will pay for quality ingredients. Please encourage your child to do chores at home so that they can earn money for this endeavor. Please support us in building community awareness and civic duty within our children. Charity Lunch is a lot of work and we do it for one reason - to allow the students an opportunity to give. Please don't put money in their hands monthly. Please give them the opportunity to earn the money. If you hand your child money it is a meaningless activity. Thank you for your support! |
Pizza Day |
Your child will have one turn per year to send pizza! You are free to do as you wish. It is less expensive to bring the pizza to school. Some people have it delivered. Please buy CHEESE pizza. ALL CHILDREN LIKE CHEESE. Please don’t send a lunch on Friday unless you do not want your child to eat cheese pizza. Please do send a snack for your child if you are in aftercare.
